A first visit to the salon is a small rite of passage, and many Norfolk families choose Crystal Nails to hold it. Children’s services (a gentle manicure, a scaled-down pedicure, or a simple polish change) are offered for guests ages 5 and up, and they are carried out with the same unhurried attention you receive in the next chair. Many mothers fold a child’s appointment into their own maintenance schedule: two chairs side by side, one visit, and everyone leaves finished.
The experience
A children’s manicure follows the same careful sequence as your own, sized to smaller hands. Nails are trimmed, shaped, and lightly buffed; cuticles are tidied with a gentle touch; and a brief hand massage closes the service before your child chooses a polish (or none at all, if a clean natural finish suits the day). A children’s pedicure begins with a warm soak drawn to a comfortable temperature, followed by careful clipping and shaping, a soft scrub, moisturizer, and color. Gel polish may be added to either service when the occasion asks for longer wear: a recital, school photographs, a family trip.
Technicians work at a child’s pace, explaining each step before it happens, and instruments are sanitized between every guest, exactly as they are for you. If you would like to be seen together, book your own classic manicure alongside, or settle into one of the four pedicure experiences while your child’s color dries.
Between appointments
Young nails grow quickly, so most families return every three to four weeks, often timed to a school break or the weekend before an occasion. Between appointments, smooth any caught edge with a soft file rather than clippers, and keep a small tube of hand cream nearby. Good habits begin early. When gel polish grows out, return to have it soaked off properly; peeling lifts the surface of a young nail along with the color. A quick polish change between full services keeps small hands fresh without repeating the complete treatment.
