Just across the Elizabeth River

Portsmouth guests already make this drive, and it is a short one. From Olde Towne or the shipyard side of the city, Crystal Nails is about 16 minutes away: through the Downtown Tunnel, up Tidewater Drive, and onto International Blvd, where you park directly in front of the salon. No garage, no meters, no circling the block.

The salon has been family-owned for more than 25 years, and the same two owners, Tommy and Jennifer, still work the floor. That continuity is what Portsmouth regulars mention most: the person who did your nails last month is the person who does them this month.

What you will find here

The color wall holds more than 500 polishes, Norfolk's largest selection, from everyday neutrals to the season's newest finishes. Pink and white ombre is a house specialty, kept crisp through years of daily practice rather than a trend chased last spring. Pedicures run from a precise regular service to the mineral-rich Onsen and pearl-powder tiers when your feet have earned an hour. We also do nails for kids and teens, ages 5 and up, seated right beside you.

Timed for shift work

Doors open at 9:30 in the morning, six days a week, which suits shipyard and hospital schedules on both sides of the river. Coming off a night shift, you can be in a pedicure chair before ten. Walk-ins are always welcome; a call ahead simply shortens the wait, and weekdays before 3 PM are the calmest stretch of the day.

An honest note

Portsmouth has salons of its own, and for a quick polish change close to home they may serve you well. Guests cross the river to us when the visit matters: a set they want done properly, a color they could not find, or a standing routine with a technician who knows their hands. If that is the visit you have in mind, we are 16 minutes away.

Make the loop worth it

A visit pairs easily with the rest of a Norfolk run. The Waterside District and downtown are 15 minutes from our chairs for lunch on the loop back to the tunnel, and Norfolk Premium Outlets sit 8 minutes up the road if the trip doubles as an errand day. The full list of what sits near us, with drive times, is on the Hampton Roads page.

Common questions

How far is Crystal Nails from Portsmouth?
About 16 minutes from downtown Portsmouth through the Downtown Tunnel, and closer to 20 from Churchland. The salon is at 1529 International Blvd #105 in the Norview area of central Norfolk, with free parking directly in front.
Is there a toll on the way?
The Downtown and Midtown tunnels carry a modest E-ZPass toll each way. Many Portsmouth guests fold the visit into errands on the Norfolk side so the crossing does double duty.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome Monday through Saturday. If you are driving over, call (757) 853-7900 before you leave and we will time a chair to your arrival. Weekdays before about 3 PM are the quietest hours.
What makes the drive worth it?
More than 500 colors on the wall, pink and white ombre done by hands with more than 25 years of practice, a four-tier pedicure menu, and services for kids and teens ages 5 and up. The work is unhurried and the instruments are immaculate.
