For the weeks that cross the water anyway

Isle of Wight mornings often point east: commutes over the Monitor-Merrimac, appointments in Norfolk, errands that pull you through the tunnels. Crystal Nails sits a few minutes off that route, on International Blvd in central Norfolk, about 35 minutes from Carrollton and 45 from Smithfield. We will not pretend that is around the corner. It is, however, on the way, and guests from the corridor fold us into the trips they were making regardless.

Why they fold us in

The corridor's own salons cover the quick visit. What draws guests across the water is the deeper menu: ombre pink and white as a house specialty, refined over more than 25 years; a color wall of more than 500 polishes, Norfolk's largest selection; pedicures that rise to mineral Onsen soaks and pearl powder; nail art current enough for any occasion; and waxing and lash services in the same visit, so one stop finishes the list. We also do nails for kids and teens, ages 5 and up.

Plan it like a Smithfield errand

The salon opens at 9:30, Monday through Saturday, with evenings to 7:30. Pair the visit with whatever brings you east, call ahead as you set out, and the chair will be ready the moment you park, directly outside the door. Weekdays before 3 PM are the quietest hours, and the ride home down 17 is prettier with a fresh set on the wheel.

Make the crossing a day

Once you are over the water, the good parts of Norfolk sit close together: the Chrysler Museum is 17 minutes from the salon, Nauticus and the battleship are 16, and a Waterside lunch downtown is 15. A morning appointment turns the errand into a day out; the full list of drive times is on the Hampton Roads page.

Before the drive

Common questions

How far is Crystal Nails from Smithfield?
About 45 minutes: Route 10 to US 17, across the Monitor-Merrimac on I-664, then I-64 east to the Norview Ave exit in central Norfolk. From Carrollton the trip is closer to 35 minutes. Parking is free, directly in front of the salon.
Is the drive really worth it?
For a quick polish change, honestly, probably not; the corridor has salons for that. Guests make this drive for the visits that matter: a set for an occasion, ombre pink and white done by specialists, or a standing routine folded into a week that already crosses the water for work or errands.
Should I call before making the trip?
Please do: (757) 853-7900. A call as you set out means your chair is timed to your arrival, and we can confirm the schedule suits the service you want. Walk-ins are still welcome; weekdays before about 3 PM are the quietest.
What services justify the longer visit?
The full menu in one stop: manicures, four pedicure tiers up to Onsen and pearl powder, dip powder, acrylics, ombre pink and white, nail art, waxing and lashes, and nails for kids and teens ages 5 and up, all against a wall of more than 500 colors.

Make the crossing count.
